Little India Deepavali Fair draws crowds

Little India Deepavali Fair was held in Harris Park this week.

As the countdown kicks off until the festival of lights, Hindus in Sydney are getting into the Diwali spirit nice and early.

On Saturday, Harris Park’s popular Wigram Street was closed off for the day, making way for a spectacular ‘Little India Deepavali Fair’ to take place.

Organised by Council of Indian Australians, the event featured stellar onstage performances from local dance groups, guest speeches, and a diverse lineup of stalls selling Indian food, clothing, jewellery and other cultural items.

The fair attracted hundreds to the heart of Sydney’s ‘Little India’ just five minutes from Parramatta, and to add to the festive spirit, a Karwa Chauth mehendi special was added to the lineup of activities, with several stalls offering henna tattoo art services.
